Dr Pratibha Agrawal
Lifetime achievement in Indian Theatre

Born in Varanasi in August 1930 to a family of illustrious Hindi writers & theatre enthusiasts, Pratibha Agrawal, first acted in the male role of Maharana Pratap at the age of 13. Coming to Kolkata in 1945 after marriage, she started acting & directing under the banner of Anamika. Immersing deeper into theatre. Her interest in language let to her D. Phil & D. Litt from Calcuta University.

She is the key founder of Natya Shodh Santhan in 1981, which is recognized as s pioneer theatre research institute with an enormous archive of theatre related material from various regions of India. At 86, she continues to compile, collect, publish & dream enthusiastically & passionately.

She has been awarded with the Ratna Sadasya. Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1975, Madhya Pradesh Sahitya Parishad Award for the book 'Dastak Zindagi Ki' in 1993 Bhartiya Anuvab Parishad Award for translation work in 1997 & the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2005 for over-all contribution to theatre.
