Shri Purbayan Chatterjee
Hindustani Instrumental music (Sitar)

At the age of 31, Purbayan Chatterjee is an already acclaimed young-generation sitarist in India and abroad. A child prodigy, Purbayan made his international debut at the age of 5, having performed at the India Festival at Basel. He learnt the basics of sitar playing from his father. Parthpratim Chatterjee and also from the sarod maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He also trained under Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty in vocal music and Pandit Anino Chatterjee in tabla. Naturally thus, he belong sto the Maihar gharana of Baba Allauddin Khan.

Purbayan has toured extensively in all the continents of the world in may prestigious festivals and venues. His sitar-playing reminds connoisseurs of the "feather touch" approach of the late sitar maestro. Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee. Thus, Purbayan's sitar is truly traditional and extremely enjoyable.
